City of Loretto Continues LED Lighting Upgrades
The City of Loretto is continuing its effort to replace older lighting systems throughout the city with more efficient LED technology.
The latest phase of the project includes upgrading the lighting at the Loretto Sports Complex, where lights serving all of the complex’s athletic fields are being replaced. The improvements are expected to provide brighter, more reliable lighting for players, coaches, families, and visitors attending games and other activities at the complex.
Streetlights throughout Loretto are also being converted to LED as part of the citywide project.
According to Loretto City Manager Jesse Turner, the city is covering the full cost of the upgrades. While the project requires an initial investment, the conversion is expected to provide long-term savings through lower energy use and reduced maintenance expenses.
“The City is funding the entire upgrade,” Turner said. “The energy savings from the LED conversion are expected to offset the cost of the streetlight portion over time.”
Turner also explained that replacing the lighting had become increasingly necessary as the city’s existing systems aged.
“In addition, both the existing streetlights and sports complex lighting systems have become increasingly difficult and expensive to maintain because many components are obsolete and replacement parts are harder to find,” Turner said.
LED lights typically use less electricity and last longer than traditional lighting, helping reduce the frequency of repairs and replacements. The upgrades should also improve visibility and provide more consistent lighting throughout the community.
The continuing project represents an investment in Loretto’s public infrastructure while addressing the rising costs and challenges associated with maintaining outdated equipment. Once completed, residents should see improved lighting along city streets and across all fields at the Loretto Sports Complex.
