The Loretto Junior High Mustangs fell to Mt. Pleasant 32-8 Thursday night, but the game carried a meaning that went well beyond the final score.

Loretto played in honor of teammate #30 Liam Giles, who sustained a serious injury during practice the day before the game. Giles was named an honorary captain for the matchup, and Mustang players wore #30 stickers on the backs of their helmets as a show of support for their teammate.

Mt. Pleasant took control early, scoring 16 points in the opening quarter to take a 16-0 lead. The Mustangs' defense held Mt. Pleasant scoreless in the second quarter, sending the teams into halftime with the score still 16-0.

Mt. Pleasant added another touchdown and conversion in the third quarter to extend its advantage to 24-0.

Loretto continued to battle and got on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter, scoring a touchdown and adding the two-point conversion. Mt. Pleasant also added eight points in the final period to make the final score 32-8.

Although the Mustangs came up short on the field, their tribute to Giles showed the kind of support and togetherness that extends far beyond football.
