The Loretto Lady Mustangs volleyball team competed against several area programs during two days of action at the Summertown Smackdown.

Loretto began the event with a strong showing on Day 1. The varsity Lady Mustangs split two sets with Harpeth, winning the opening set 25-22 before Harpeth answered with a 25-22 victory in the second. The junior varsity team won its first period 25-16 and led 5-1 in additional play.

The varsity Lady Mustangs followed with a two-set victory over Battle Creek, winning 25-19 and 25-23. Battle Creek held an 11-2 advantage in junior varsity play.

Day 2 began with Loretto facing Lawrence County. The Lady Mustangs fell 25-11 and 25-17, while Lawrence County edged Loretto 21-20 in junior varsity action.

Loretto then battled Columbia Central, narrowly losing the opening varsity set 25-23 before responding with a 25-18 victory in the second. The Lady Mustangs earned a 12-11 win in junior varsity play.

The tournament concluded against host Summertown. Loretto stayed close in the opening set before falling 25-23, followed by a 25-14 Summertown victory in the second. Summertown also won the junior varsity matchup 12-7.

Although Day 2 was difficult on the scoreboard, the tournament provided the Lady Mustangs with valuable opportunities to compete, improve and prepare for the challenges ahead.

“Every point, every set, and every challenge is preparing this team for what lies ahead,” the team shared following the tournament.

The Lady Mustangs thanked everyone who attended and cheered them on throughout the event. The team will return to work Monday and continue building on the experience gained during the Summertown Smackdown.
