Lady Mustangs Rebound with Sweep of Collinwood After Lawrence County Loss
The Loretto Lady Mustangs volleyball team bounced back Tuesday with a strong performance against Collinwood, earning wins in both junior varsity and varsity action one night after hosting Lawrence County.
On Monday, August 17, Loretto and Lawrence County met at Loretto, with the Lady Mustangs picking up the win in the junior varsity match.
Lawrence County took the opening JV set 25-20, but Loretto responded in convincing fashion. The Lady Mustangs evened the match with a 25-14 victory in the second set before closing it out with a 15-7 win in the deciding third set to take the match 2-1.
In varsity action, Loretto opened the night with a 25-16 victory in the first set, but Lawrence County answered by winning the next three.
The Lady Wildcats evened the match with a 25-19 win in the second set and followed with a 25-9 victory in the third. Loretto battled in a close fourth set before Lawrence County edged the Lady Mustangs 25-23 to secure the 3-1 match victory.
The Lady Mustangs quickly returned to the court Tuesday, August 18, against Collinwood and came away with a pair of victories.
Loretto’s junior varsity squad swept Collinwood 2-0, winning both sets by identical 25-12 scores.
The varsity Lady Mustangs also earned a straight-set victory. Loretto battled through a tight opening set for a 27-25 win before taking control of the match. The Lady Mustangs dominated the second set 25-8 and finished the sweep with a 25-18 victory in the third.
Tuesday’s performance gave Loretto a quick response following Monday’s varsity loss and a strong finish to back-to-back nights of volleyball.
